Almost every gamer knows what big game will be released at the end of the week. If you don’t, you were probably living in a cave for the last month or maybe you just didn’t pay your internet bill and your service provider had to disconnect you from the world. After all, the game has been covered at least once in most every major video game site, and has been covered on a daily basis in many others. Some sites even showcase videos dedicated to the long and successful history of the franchise. Several companies have promotions planned around the release including Microsoft who will be releasing a red, special edition Xbox360 which will be packaged in a bundle.
So, in case you accidentally stepped in a time warp and have been away for a while, the game we are talking about is none other than: Resident Evil 5, developed by Capcom.
No Resident Evil title has garnered as much attention or hype than Resident Evil 5. A large reason is because Resident Evil 4 did so well. In fact, Resident Evil 4 sold over 6 million copies for the GameCube, Wii and PS2 (RE4 was not released for the Xbox). This time around, Resident Evil 5 will be released for the PS3 and the Xbox360. It is not known if it will eventually be available for the Wii, although there have been rumors floating around ever since last summer. A downloadable demo of the game became available for the PS3 and the 360 in January and February. Between the two consoles, over 4 million demos were downloaded.
Reviews for the game have been coming in the last couple of days. The first one was from Eurogamer.com who shockingly gave the game a 7 out of 10. According to GameSpot.com, the average critic score for the PS3 is 8.6 out of 10 and 8.4 for the Xbox 360. If you played the demo, I’m sure you will agree the game deserves a score closer to the GameSpot critic average than Eurogamer.com.
So far, Capcom has stirred things up this year with the release of Street Fighter IV - selling almost a million copies for the PS3 and XBox 360 to date, according to vgchartz.com. Still, Resident Evil 5 is Capcom’s game for this year and much of their success will be based on how well it does. If the early reviews are any indication, it should do fairly well. While RE4 sold over 6 million copies, we believe RE5 will not only match that milestone, but surpass it. Our prediction is 7-10 million copies sold in 2009 for the PS3 and XBOX 360.
Next week we will be featuring “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars: for the DS.

IMPACT SCORE: Impact Score is a scoring system based on historical sales results, trends, game reviews, hype, opinion and facts. This system rates the impact a game might have for its company in terms of sales, reception, recognition etc. A game can score anywhere from 100 points to zero. A game that scores a 100 should have the biggest of impacts on its’ company while a score of zero would be a game that should do virtually nothing for its’ company.
